Statement

My work invites exploration of what it means to be soft, feminine and natural. These concepts are contrasted with the notions of hard, masculine, and man-made in form or material. I work with various archetypes of the female in pursuit of investigating my own archetypal condition as a creator. I mold plush shapes with nylons in soft yonic and phallic symbols, as well as static forms in concrete or plaster. The concepts also find resting places, as the objects are filled with dirt, sand and salt.
The materials I choose to work with dictate the expression of a piece. I investigate the meaning of material whether it be substances like earth, sand, and concrete. I challenge the material notion that man-made is in fact nature-made. Similar to vessels in stature, these incarnations embody symbols of fertility.
Manifesting as fungus like objects that represent life itself, the impression of growth is ever present in my work. My forms take on primitive shapes as I see all genesis coming from a place of the womb. My objects personify orifices of the body while maintaining individuality to be organic shapes of their own. Through my perception as a womban my work is a representation of the gestating force of life.
